This beautiful off-grid cabin with land, a water mine and independent solar power has an additional guesthouse for rental income and is being sold with both fully furnished. Located in the foothills of the Acor mountains in Central Portugal it is very private with good access, great weather, and apart from the occasional gas bottle, no bills. It would make an ideal family home, holiday cabin or, with the never-ending sunshine and solar power, a great crypto-mining location.
The main cabin has a living room / kitchen downstairs with a separate flushing toilet and basin. The kitchen has a full gas cooker with hot and cold running water to a spalted pine sink unit. There are numerous shelves for storage, a work-surface and a pretty window-seat. The kitchen adjoins the living room, which is furnished with a sofa-bed and armchair. A modern woodburner heats the whole cabin from the corner of the lounge, and a centre table/trunk with accent lighting, a hand-made olive-wood table and some storage units complete the delightful living space.
The downstairs walls have been double-lined with pine cladding for additional insulation and have been oiled. There are electric sockets throughout.
The rustic stairs, made from an old white oak grown on the property with local cedar steps, lead to the upstairs bedroom with its double bed, reading area and sofa. There is an armchair with a reading light in a niche next to the window next to the main bookcase. This little area also has a cedar work surface. The large library of books is available to the purchaser at additional cost if so desired.
On the other side of the room sits an ottoman for general storage with an open area for hanging clothes above it. Alongside is a writing desk, a Queen Anne chest of drawers and more bookshelves. There is accent lighting and a side-table made from olive wood grown on the land. At the foot of the sits bed a Jacquard love seat.
The house has pine, oiled floorboards throughout. Outside, adjacent to the house is a large shower cubicle powered by a gas boiler.
There is an outside dining area near the front entrance underneath a wooden porch. The outdoor furniture is custom-made from the property's own Madrona trees and local pine, and matches the house beautifully. The solar power comes from a 500 watt panel on the roof wired into an external box by the shower room, which houses a 100ah lithium battery, a charge controller and a 1kw inverter. The solar system is intended for lighting, powering the fridge during summer, TV and recharging devices like phones and laptops. It can also run a small washing machine (not provided) at the moment, and can be easily upgraded if needed.
The cabin has pretty, meandering cottage gardens with seating that lead down through two terraces onto a large flat area ideal for sports, farming or even planting a small copse. Then a winding rustic stairway leads up to another couple of terraces and a small area of eucalyptus trees.
On the lower of these terraces is a second cabin, also plumbed into the water mine, with a hot water bath/shower and flushing toilet, ideal for renting out or as a guesthouse for short-term visitors. The guesthouse is furnished and has a double bed, woodburner, sink and sofa. It measures 2.5m x 5m.
Both cabins are plumbed into an all-year-round natural spring on the land and have independent solar power. The guest cabin has the same specification solar power system as the main cabin.
The guest cabin has a solid wood front door and a window to the front, with a loft space across its whole length.
The property is being sold as land with two sheds, not as an urban property. The buyer can choose to keep the documentation as it is, create a backdated project for an urban construction, or wait for the legalisation process which is automatically approved after a number of years.
The property has excellent mobile and data reception, and is located about 300m down a good, rocky forest track from a tarmac road. A 4x4 isn't required for access. The nearest neighbour is over half a kilometre away. There is parking for two cars and two bikes on the land plus a lay-by across the lane for another car.
The nearest cafe is a kilometre away, and the nearest town with bank, mini-markets, bars, cafes and shops is the beautiful and popular Coja, 4km away.
It is well-located for the cultural capital of Portugal, Coimbra, and the ski-resort of Serra de Estrela, both of which are 45 minutes away. There are also many river beaches and pretty mountain villages 5-10 minutes from the cabin. And hiking the forests and mountains can begin right outside the front door!
This is a cash-only sale, no mortgages please. If you are interested a 10% deposit will secure it (this is required by Portuguese law).
