DETAILS
Nestled in the idyllic Aix countryside, with Mont St Victoire just up the road, lies the peaceful Mas de Bayeux in Le Tholonet, up a drive of 250 metres and surrounded by hills, vineyards and miles of greenery. The Mas was part of a huge aristocratic estate built in the 17th century, which is now divided into the Bastide, and our Mas with its 5,000 sqm of land and a large swimming pool.
The Mas is divided into 7 apartments, each different, run by a Syndic and its Managing Agent. I have the only second floor apartment, with a beautiful view of Cezanne's mountain from my lounge window. It is full of character, with beamed ceilings, terracotta tiled floors and many unusual features. The windows are double-glazed throughout.
See photos and floorplan for details. It has been my principal home for 14 years, but is equally suitable as a second or holiday home.
The Syndic takes responsibility for the Mas and we have gardeners to take care of the extensive grounds. Electricity is individual and it is proposed to instal separate water meters shortly. There is a connection in the kitchen for cylinder gas and space for a microwave. The boiler was replaced 4 years ago. Each year the 7 coproprietaires meet to decide on a budget for the year and the necessary additional charges. This year we are replacing the gutters. The roof is maintained as needed each year. The standing charges include the gardeners, swimming pool maintenance, small repairs, administrative charges, such as banking, legal, insurance and local taxes for the Mas, etc, and at the moment water. The coproprietaires pay for their own personal electricity, local taxation and insurance.
Marseille airport is easily accessible 35 minutes; likewise the city and beaches. Aix-en-Provence is about 12/15 minutes drive with its buzzing atmosphere, lots of shops, restaurants and renowned cultural life. There is also a local Anglo-American Group to give you an immediate social life and support. Anyone who knows Provence will already be addicted to its endless delights.
I have been here for 14 years and I am very sorry to be leaving this quiet and peaceful haven, with all the excitements of Provence at my fingertips.
